have not seen male since just after 8 am , unless I missed an exchange . no t like him. He left with a few chups. first sound I heard in 2 days from falcons

we are to have high winds and rain for next few days. so hope hatches , till weekend. It will be hard to hunt.

I hate the wind at this site particularly

Unbanded bird, lands on front and tries to go in,
She is mantling her eggs

Hard to tell whether male or female from angle .
Positive thoughts here
Darn floater birds.
Hope our male is around. :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious: :furious:

And it comes to front again. Getting braver. Poor female in middle of hatching out eggs

What I would give to see our male.

No sign of resident male for 48 hours.
Resident has not been off nest for almost 48 hours
I hatch , and one on way.
Intruder in twice this morning already. ( was on catwalk to front and female mantled, it flew off. Came to front again, and stare down, it flew off )

Strange think is , there is no sound from either. She gave a low call last night after hatch. Other than that , no sound from anyone

Am I wreck, yes.

I have notified all , that have to be notified.
Not sure is this is male or female. Male would make sense , but our male is tough. Hard to imagine , poof. He may be fighting or protecting but should have shown his face , before now
I am praying

Genesee may31

We have had a situation develop here.

As of this morning,1 - resident male missing for over 48 hours
2 - female has not been off nest for over 48 hours

3- an intruder has been coming to nest box area, since yesterday.May 30 ( there had been one two days ago( may28) but female chased it out and resident male came in to incubate. There was no sign of anything wrong)
4 - had one egg hatch last evening 9:06pm may30
5- another egg hatched this morning 9:54am May31

Female needs to be able ot get prey to feed chicks and herself( she can not do this alone)

So after notifying the proper authorities, the decision was made early this morning, to remove the new chicks, and 2 pipped eggs.

It had to be done in a timely manner, to make sure first hatch had its first feed within a 24 hour period after hatch.

So 4 porcelain eggs have been put in with our female

This is never an easy decision to make, but it was a necessary decision.

Thank you Emyrauld for helping with observations.

The 2 chicks are doing well. Both have been fed and eggs are being incubated. Things look good for them

NOte:
As of now, resident female left the box to side rail at 9:29pm and back to the front at 9:30pm . she looked around and softly called and then was out again. she came back at 9:32pm . After, looking around she called out softly again, and then went back in to box( not enough time to eat)

So we will wait and see how this all plays out.
thank you
BEV

Look at previous posts and you can see how this all developed.

Thank you Bev. Its never an easy decision, that's for sure...saying a little prayer that either Dad reappears or that mom becomes really receptive to this intruder male AND he is willing to incubate these "eggs"...but, we know how that often goes...such lousy, lousy timing...

Poor mom. I hate this the most for her...who has been so faithful and diligent...can I just say...curses!!

thanks Mary anne.

not a good time for this to happen. Our resident male has been so great all these years( since 2019) He taught red band when she came in ( 2022 , after we lost our resident female to avian flu). She had a lot to learn and she has really depended on him.
Note:
Intruder was on the top of box roof at 7:40 pm
Image

resident female did go out at 9:29pm/ she went to side fence after looking around, and back in a minute , to thefront. She gave a few soft calls , looked around , and out again at 9:30pm
9:32pm - she flew back to front of the box, gave a few more soft calls and then went into box
It has been a long week so far ( thank you Emyrauld for your eyes also)

hopefully she goes out and has a good meal

have a good evening. tomorrow is a new day

This was a little sad. Mom remembered she had chicks and was vocalizing trying to get a response for a feed. She ate some herself...didn't stay long.
