MSU Spartan 6/12/24 - Two fludges to the roof today. Won't be long for the third!

Edit to add: Third chick went the other direction and jumped to the top of the nestbox, then tried to jump down to the beam but fell to the roof. That might have hurt. Mom retrieved the prey in the nestbox and took it away to feed her three juvies on the roof. Bad weather coming tomorrow ... hope they stay safe.

The Soo falcons were banded June 4 - two females, Barb and Janet, and one male, Chum.
Barb and Janet were named in honor of retired bridge toll collectors Barb Winowiecki and the late Janet Hotchkiss. Chum was named in remembrance of Janet’s habit of greeting many people as “chum.”

6-18-24 Update on the Houghton-Hancock Lift Bridge falcons (Copper Country Birding) The falcons are still nesting on the bridge in a hole in an i-beam. A bridge worker looked into the hole and thinks there are two chicks. They should be popping up out of the hole soon and revealing themselves.

And I have discovered some very neat news about the Wayne State nest. According to their Facebook page (I just typed in Wayne States falcons) They have installed a second camera to get better pictures at both ends of the ledge!

Wayne State- unbanded falcon on the rail ((I’m hoping it’s Herman, the resident male, but it looks kind of big to me) He started chupping to an incoming falcon, but that falcon flew past and did not stop.
