Rebecca now has 4 chicks:
Image

The difference is size between those hatched just a couple of days ago and the last two is incredible - how quickly they grow  . I watched the end of this feed and I'd say that the little one at the back hatched a short time ago. S/He's still very wobbly, s/he seemed a bit wet still and his/her eyes aren't really open but there's certainly the will to live and make it.
Cirro, the new male, is doing a fine job and is bringing small birds and some rodents for his growing family. Well done Cirro :loveshow:

Sadly I have no time to post here simultaneously, so I limit myself to posting a ref. to the topic about the Israeli Lesser Kestrels in our Dutch forumtopic, where you'll anyway be able to find more snapshots and clips and animations: and
the link to the nest as the link posted in the Kestrel webcam collection .

Yesterday, # 2 fledged, 2 remained:

early this morning, # 3 fledged,

1 remains and the rest are practicing outside.

Warbler - Thanks for the news about Rebecca's fourth chick - and for the news about the new male's name, Cirro. It's so nice to see everything going well at this nest, especially after all that happened last year.

Bosuil - Thanks for the nice pictures and exciting news about 3 of the Israeli chicks fledging! And thanks, too, for the link to your forum's topic on this nest...that link will be most helpful in keeping track of these kestrels.

Caught the start of a feeding here. I'm not sure if it was lunch or just an afternoon snack.

Thanks for your interesting posts, Feather! Do the 2 males still both bring food to the nest?
I have watched, but the times I could distinguish the tail it was the older male.
Also, I noticed that the female is very careful, when the chicks were still small, several times I saw her take 2 positions to feed them, so that the ones in the back also got fed. And when she arrives, she often preens them and searches for (or picks up) fleas etc.
A great nest to watch.

Could you tell something about the building? Is there a picture of what it looks like from outside, the facade - and how high up is it?

Edit 15:07: sorry, I just found it in the birdwatch.by forum in your post of April 24:

Bosuil - Feather posted some additional pictures on the location of the nest, including a great view from the nest, on our forum. You can find them about halfway down on the following page:

Congratulations with your Kestrel nest - beautiful pictures, Richardoe! Awesome in the real sense of the word, esp. as we can't help getting used to webcam image quality. Simply a relief to see photo's with such good resolution, colour, everything.

But, a small typo: also in the USA 1 kilogram is 1,000 gram

Pearl1 - I checked on the nest this morning, and I definitely saw 4 chicks (at first it looked like only 3 chicks, but then I saw the top of the head of the 4th chick at the bottom of the screen).

Thanks so much for the banding information, new cam URL, and - most of all - the beautiful pictures of the kestrel chicks. They're all so adorable, but I especially like this picture. So sweet! :loveheart2:

Unfortunately, the little chick in Rebecca and Cirro's nest in Rome has died :-( :-( . Rebecca then disposed of it in the same way as the little one in The Netherlands.

This has, understandably, caused a lot of upset here but we also know that the people in Rome did everything that was humanly possible. It appears that the parents are having some difficulty in finding enough food for their chicks and the little one hadn't been getting the same amount as his bigger brothers and sisters. We'll never know if there was anything else wrong with him but he was certainly much smaller than the others.

Now we just have to hope that the others can survive and become strong, fine kestrels.

This is sad indeed  but we have the rest of them to carry on so we have
to look at the positive of that.
there was someone worried that one of the Dorset chicks
had died but then it was fianally spotted to be fine
