Video: Hoku Fledges!

As you know, Hoku fledged on June 2. If you missed her maiden flight, click on the link above. That blur in the picture is Hoku taking off --

Phoebe Allens update...
Phoebe Allens Hummingbird Webcam: :dancinggirls:
The camera is up for now. Pointing thru a window, we see Phoebe exploring the bush occasionally.

Thanks for the news, Beth. It sounds like Phoebe's getting ready for another nesting season!

Update from Joe 10-21-10 ...

Phoebe Allens has chosen her nest location and she is quite busy with construction now.
The camera is still on the opposite side of the bush, but I will move it closer this weekend.

I recorded a visit to the nest and some building activity but Youtube is not cooperating so it will have to wait till tomorrow.
Lovely to watch this little jewel again. Let's hope this will be without drama.

EDIT: Here is the video:

Had to add this, she flew at the camera (blurry, upper left) and showed her red "necklace". She's making good progress on her nest.

Recorded earlier today, this video took two hours to "process" on YT. It is .wmv format and I saved it a second time in MP4 (MPEG) format and it processed in about five minutes.

Wonderful video beans. Thanks for taking the time to make it AND for the processing tip at YT. That's the longest I've ever seen Phoebe sit still.

Male Spatuletail Hummingbird (you have to see this)
Image
Here is a short BBC video of the male Spatuletail Hummingbird, only recently caught on film for the first time. It lives in only a few small locations in Peru.

And here is a forty minute Nature program all about hummingbirds. It also features the Spatuletail but many close-ups in slow motion of Hummers I'd never seen before.
