Beautiful pictures! Thank you very much.

I'm surprised she's building a nest now. I always think of spring and summer as "baby bird season." Well, I don't know much about hummingbirds--

A small bit of additional info on Channel Islands Allen's Hummingbird. Phoebe is a non-migratory Hummingbird.

from Wikipedia;
"A second race S.s. sedentarius is a permanent resident on the Channel Islands off southern California. This population colonized the Palos Verdes Peninsula of Los Angeles County in the 1960s and has since spread over much of Los Angeles and Orange Counties."

and Phoebe's site;
"The season for nesting is October through May/early June, and Phoebe will lay four to five clutches per season. One or two eggs are laid per clutch, they hatch after 17 days, and the chicks typically fly three to four weeks later. Phoebe will sometimes build a new nest, but frequently repairs old nests."

Thanks for the video beans. Looks like you and I have the same fondness for Steller's Jays. My avatar on YT is a Steller's Jay too. The ones up north have blue "eyebrows" instead of white. Happy Birthday

Bad news this am...eggs are gone :-(

Joe - cam host does not know exactly what happened at the nest. He was watching it at dawn and she was very active and kind of thrashing about in the nest. He says she kicked the eggs out, and he found them broken on the ground. Moderator says she will lay another clutch in a week possibly, but will she repair and use this same nest, that is unknown.

What a shame...you could be right, Susan...or maybe something really startled her...guess we'll never know...I just hope she will regroup and "relay"...maybe a deeper nest?
